Norway’s most influential Slavist, Professor Emeritus Svein Mønnesland, met with Ambassador Jasmina Mitrović Marić to discuss a reprint of his translations of Vuk Stefanovic Karadzic’s folk poetry from 1971

Well acquainted with the work of the Serbian Ambassador in the scholarly field they share, Norway’s most influential Slavist and historian of Balkan languages and cultures, Professor Emeritus Svein Mønnesland - himself a former student in Serbia (having completed studies in Serbo-Croatian language, literature, and culture at the Faculty of Philology of the University of Novi Sad, under Professor Pavle Ivić) - engaged in an extended discussion with Ambassador Jasmina Mitrović Marić regarding a new and expanded bilingual Serbian-Norwegian edition of his translations of Serbian epic and lyric folk poetry from Vuk’s collections, originally published in 1971, in the context of the upcoming celebration of 110 years of diplomatic relations between our two countries in 2027.

The Ambassador presented Professor Emeritus S. Mønnesland with three books on contemporary Serbian literature and language, published by the Association of Slavic Societies of Serbia, which she had brought especially for him.
