Customs certificate

Serbian citizens and/or members of ship crews who have been posted, on whichever base, to work abroad continuously at least for 2 years are exempted from paying customs duties on imported household goods with the exception of motorized vehicles. This exemption understands import of household goods within a year from the date of return from abroad in total value of 20.000 EUR converted into Serbian dinars independently from transportation costs. Continuous stay also understands a time person spends on vacation.

Documentation needed to submit your request for issuance of a customs certificate by the diplomatic-consular representation includes:

  • Valid passport; 
  • Confirmation of employer that the person has spent at least 2 years as an employee at their company (issued on the name of the applicant, signature and stamp of the employer/authorized person). 
  • Document on the length of stay abroad called Bostedattest should be obtained from the Norwegian Institution Skatteetaten,
  • Certificate of the relevant national authority of the foreign state in charge of social security data;
  • Proof of permanent return to the Republic of Serbia

Transportation of pets

For transporting dogs, cats and fur animals the following conditions need to be met:

  • Pets need to be permanently marked in the requested way;
  • Pets need to have a passport issued by a certified veterinary of a foreign country confirming that the pet(s) has been:
  • Vaccinated and re-vaccinated against rabies with an inactivated vaccine with at least one antigen unit per dose (WHO standard) and that has been done in accordance with the vaccine producers’ instructions, if the pet is older than 3 months;
  • 21 days must have passed after vaccination took place, in the case of first vaccination against rabies;
  • The pet must have resided from birth in one place and has not been in contact with wild animals that could have been exposed to infection or it is still dependent from its mother in case of pets that are younger than 3 months and are not vaccinated.

Besides personal luggage and medication for personal use one can freely bring to the Republic of Serbia up to 200 cigarettes, 1 perfume or 1 liter of alcohol drink. Special permits are requested for live animals, animal products, pets, as well as plants and amateur radio-stations. Without any exemption it is prohibited to bring arms and ammunition, forbidden substances, poisons, hazardous materials as well pirated goods (plagiarism).

Limitation to take foreign currency out of the country is 10.000 EUR. To bring foreign currency into the Republic of Serbia is limitless but all passengers are obligated according to the law to report any sum exceeding the amount of 10.000 EUR at the entrance/exit border point.

Entry of medication for personal use

Persons that enter/exit the Republic of Serbia can take with them only the amount of medication needed for personal use or for the use of pet travelling which cannot exceed a six month dosage.

When entering/exiting the Republic of Serbia, the traveler is required to show to the customs officer permit of the relevant Ministry to bring in/take out medication for personal use. The permit is being issued based on the opinion of the chosen medical doctor. The said is applied if a person takes out/brings in the Republic of Serbia medication for personal use in the amount that cannot be more than the amount needed for 15 days. Special
