NORWEGIANS SING MOKRANJAC!
09. Jan 2026.
On this day in 1856, the Serbian and world-renowned composer Stevan Stojanović Mokranjac was born.
The Norwegian choir “A Capellissimmo” is taking part in the International Mokranjac Days in Negotin.
Here is how Norwegian singers, in rich polyphony, perform Mokranjac’s work from his sacred music opus, “We Hymn Thee”, from the Liturgy of Saint John Chrysostom:
He did not compose his celebrated “Rukoveti” as mere musical pieces, but as musical icons of the people—meant not only to be heard, but to be remembered.

The importance of Mokranjac’s work in shaping the Serbian national musical identity is further underscored by the fact that his likeness appears on the 50-dinar banknote.
