With Love to Her Compatriots in Norway - The Bequest of Prof. Dr Zorica Sarah Mitić at Our Embassy

A life devoted to medicine and to the painstaking collection and preservation of historical records, ensuring that more than 3,000 of our Serbian forebears - who lie buried in Norwegian soil, victims of slave labour in Nazi camps in occupied Norway during the Second World War - are never forgotten: this is the story behind the bequest of Prof. Dr Zorica Sarah Mitić.

Years of generously sharing her knowledge and working with First Counsellor Isidora Đorđević, together with her trust in Ambassador Jasmina Mitrović Marić, led Professor Mitić to entrust our Embassy with her life’s work - a legacy of national significance for Serbia.

Collected, organised, catalogued, published and presented over decades with love and expertise, this priceless historical treasure has been entrusted to the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in Oslo for safekeeping and care.

Igor Marinković and Slađana Marković, the representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs who received this precious collection, also witnessed Professor Dr Zorica Sarah Mitić’s selfless generosity and her dedication to preserving this vital link in the chain of remembrance.

Several boxes and suitcases of archival material documenting the suffering of Serbs during the construction of the “Blood Road,” as the Norwegians called it, will soon be sent to Oslo. Once the material has been processed and the collection established, it will be available to the public at the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia.

Our dear Zorica Sarah Mitić,

For your selfless generosity, both as a professional and as a person, and for your love and dedication to your country:

THANK YOU.
